I'm fully aware that this community currently has literally no followers, but I wrote something for the first time in two and a half years. So I'm posting it. Here's some fluffy nostalgia.

Title: Evoke
Rating: U
Genre: General
Characters/Pairing: David, mentions of Nigel
Word Count: 1838
Warnings: Maybe pre-slash, if your tastes are drawn that way.
Author's Notes: For the anonymous reader who requested more Tap fic last week. Ask and you shall receive! I dug up inspiration for this from the 'random' section of QuotationsPage.com.
Summary: Despite spending the first two decades of his life in this little flat, it just doesn’t register in his memory as being the same place.

“Smell is a potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles
and all the years you have lived.”

Welcome to the Spinal Tap Fanfiction community at Dreamwidth!

Oh, thanks! Why is this group here, anyway?

I've been writing Tap stories for a few years now - personally, I started writing when I couldn't find any Tap fanfiction to read! I've uploaded fiction at [livejournal.com profile] spinalfics on LiveJournal since 2007 - a quiet but friendly community which I'd recommend checking out. However, with recent negative events on LiveJournal, I've decided to leave the site and move to Dreamwidth exclusively. Browsing through the interests here, I was sad to discover that there was no Spinal Tap community of any sort, let alone a fanfiction one (which wasn't a surprise, considering how small the fandom is). So, just as I solved the the earlier lack of fanfiction by writing some, I decided to fill in the gap by creating a community (I also transferred over all of my fiction posts from the LiveJournal group, so all of the entries below this one were originally posted on LJ over the last three years).

Hooray! Can I join?

Of course - the more, the merrier! You can join by visiting the profile page. There is no age limit, and membership is unmoderated so you don't have to wait to be confirmed as a member. Any member can post to the community - and your post needn't be limited to fanfiction! Pictures or general discussions about the band, the film, the music, the cast, etc. are very welcome.

Are there any rules I have to keep to?

There are no rules as such - just a few posting guidelines on the profile page (which are fairly much common sense, anyway). The 'punishment' for not abiding to the guidelines is, er... a polite reminder from myself. So don't panic if you don't quite keep to them!

Well, this is all great, but I've still got more questions!

No problem! You can get in contact with myself through Dreamwidth - any messages will go to my email which I normally check everyday, so I should be quick to reply! In the meantime, I look forward to seeing the fandom grow!

Having only dipped my toes in the world of 100 word drabbles before now, I've decided to jump in (and I find it harder to do than writing longer stories, if I'm honest). I've written five 100 word drabbles, all inspired by quotes I've found while browsing the 'random' section of www.quotationspage.com. Most are slashy, a couple are a bit angsty, but none of them are rated higher than PG.

Five very short stories

I started this dictionary challenge (flicking through a dictionary and picking a random word for each letter to use as prompts) nearly two years ago, and only just got round to writing my third story from it. 23 more to go, I guess...

Title: Waste Not, Want Not
Rating: PG
Genre: General
Pairing: David/Nigel
Word Count: 382
Warnings: Slash
Author's Notes: Inspired by the word 'Relish' from my dictionary challenge.
Summary: David and Nigel spend 4th July in New York.

I've gone for a different focus and different style this time round, and strangely, I don't dislike Jeanine so much after writing it. How strange. Comments would be greatly appreciated on this one (even if they're critical) as I'm not used to writing in this style... Having said that, this is probably my favourite thing I've written (although I don't know how it comes off to other readers)!

Title: Control
Rating: 18 or R (depending on your side of the Atlantic) to be safe
Genre: Drama, romance, a bit of angst
Pairing: David/Nigel (implied), David/Jeanine, Nigel/Jeanine
Word Count: 3543
Warnings: Strong language, adult content (although not graphic), slash
Author's Notes: In the extended edition of This Is Spinal Tap, it's mentioned that Nigel once slept with Jeanine. The thought of what was going through their heads at the time (besides the obvious, of course) inspired me, so this focuses on Nigel and Jeanine’s relationship, from 1977 to 2000. Most of the dates and locations were taken from SpinalTapFan.com's A to Z, without which this would have been very confusing to write indeed - I've tried to keep it as 'canon' as possible.
Summary: They’re very similar, David tells her, Nigel and Jeanine; long lost spiritual acquaintances even, and that of course they’ll both recognise the connection instantly. The reality is somewhat different.

I haven't posted at all in such a long time! I've just finished the final year of my degree (a year which hasn't involved much sleep because of the workload), so hopefully I'll have time to write and post more from now on!

Title: On The Road
Rating: PG
Genre: General
Pairing: David/Nigel (implied)
Word Count: 781
Warnings: Implied slash
Author's Notes: Set around the time of the original film. Inspired by the song On Down The Road by Izzy Stradlin.
Summary: "What about you? Normal life or touring, if you had the choice?"

Back with a short one. I'm not sure how it happened, I just sat down and browsed through my journal in boredom, got inspired and then this was on my screen. Feedback welcome as always.

Title: Curtains
Fandom: Spinal Tap
Rating: PG
Genre: General
Pairing: David/Nigel
Word Count: 384
Warnings: Implied slash
Author's Notes: Just a short one, set after the Live Earth performance at Wembley Stadium, 7th July 2007. Inspired by 'Curtain' from my DIY dictionary challenge.
Summary: Wembley had been rebuilt since the last time they were there. Sod it, everything had been rebuilt since last time.

Well, I've seen this music based writing exercise around on a couple of communities, so I decided to have a go myself with our boys. The task was to:

1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Put iTunes or equivalent media player on random.
3. For each song that plays, write something related to the theme you picked inspired by the song. You have only the time frame of the song: no planning beforehand: you start when it starts, and no lingering afterward; once the song is over, you stop writing. (No fair skipping songs either; you have to take what comes by chance!)
4. Do 5 of these, then post.

The link to mine is here.

By the way, it's good for a bit of inspiration... hint hint!

Back in September I made myself a challenge to get a bit more inspired to write stuff - you know those lists of word prompts that a lot of writers on LJ have? Well, I made my own one by going through a dictionary and picking a random word for each letter and 6 months after starting the first one (and then encountering uni work, life, writing blocks, other plot-bunnies (which are coming, slowly), and just generally other things to get distracted with), here's the first result: inspired by L for Leprechaun.

Title: Gold
Fandom: Spinal Tap
Rating: 12
Genre: Drama, Romance
Pairing: David/Nigel
Word Count: 5539
Warnings: Slash, 'mild peril' (because I always wanted to use that term!)
Author's Notes: Set at some point before the tour in the film, and inspired by the word 'Leprechaun' from my DIY dictionary challenge. I wasn't planning on quite so much drama in this, but it just seemed to fall out of my hands as I was typing. Feedback welcome as always.
Summary: Where’s the fun in not bothering with dreams just because they’d never come true, anyway?

*quietly knocks on door*

Newbie here... I'm not very good at the whole self-introduction thing, but uhmmm... I come with goodies. Sort of. Without further ado:
Title: Revelations
Fandom: Spinal Tap
Rating: 15 (mainly for language)
Genre: Romance
Pairing: David/Jeanine (implied), David/Nigel
Word Count: 1633
Warnings: Slash, mild references to adult content, some strong language
Author's Notes: Set backstage at the gig in which Nigel (having left the band) turns up, after the camera crew have gone. My first slash fic to go online... comments welcome. :-)
Summary: "This thing between you and her," Nigel continued, his eyes focussed on David and his voice dark, "it's not special. She doesn't love you, you know. She loves David St. Hubbins, voice of Spinal Tap. She doesn't love Dave."
Link to the entry in my journal here. :-)
